New Music: Apart: "Oak Island"

South Carolina hardcore outfit Apart have posted one of the two songs from their upcoming 7-inch. It’s titled A Bright And Clever Hell and is due out September 24, 2013 via Mayfly Records. It’s the follow up to Gray Light which was released in 2012.

The band has earned comparisons to bands like Xerxes, Modern Life is War, Pianos Become the Teeth and others.

Uxbridge, UK’s Colour Me Wednesday have released a video for their new single Shut.

The track is taken from their forthcoming debut album I Thought It Was Morning, and is available as a ‘name your price’ download from their Bandcamp page.

The album is due out on Discount Horse Records on the 29th of July, and is available to preorder now from the label, or the band with a range of zine bundle deals available at the latter.

Streams: Lipstick Homicide: 'Out Utero' and tour

Iowa’s Lipstick Homicide have just digitally self-released their new full-length, Out Utero. The album is expected to see a physical release on cd within weeks, and on LP within a few months. To celebrate, the band is hitting the road for the rest of June and July on the Lipstick Homicide Warrior Princess Tour which takes them to Insubordination Fest and then out for a West Coast/Canada run with Direct Hit!. They are also playing The Fest 12.

Interviews: Ryan Rockwell (Mixtapes)

Cincinnati-based Mixtapes are preparing for the release of the band’s second release for No Sleep Records, titled Ordinary Silence, set to hit stores on June 25th. The four-piece will embark on a headlining tour in support of the album with You Blew It! and Light Years, as well as a slew of dates on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour. Punknews staff interviewer Gregg Harrington recently spoke with guitarist/vocalist Ryan Rockwell about the band’s approach to recording, their upcoming tour itinerary and the Yost Theater in California.

On Tour: Off With Their Heads (US)

The Minneapolis punks Off With Their Heads have announced another lengthy tour stretching across the good ‘ole US of A. Beginning in July, the band will play select shows with Vultures United, Ben Marwood and Frank Turner. The tour wraps up and they move right on to Riot Fest Chicago and Denver plus they’re playing the Pre-Fest and The Fest 12 in October.

Music Videos: 'The Art of Punk' with Crass, Black Flag, and Dead Kennedys

MOCAtv’s new documentary series, The Art of Punk, debuted last week giving a closer look at the artists behind iconic logos of punk bands such as Black Flag (Raymond Pettibon), The Dead Kennedys (Winston Smith), and Crass (Dave King).

The series also includes interviews with former band members and other artists who have been influenced by “the art of punk rock” including Jello Biafra, Tim Biskup, Scott Campbell, Chuck Dukowski, Flea, Keith Morris, Steve Olson, Penny Rimbaud, Henry Rollins, Owen Thornton, and Gee Vaucher. The series is created by writer/author of Fucked Up + Photocopied, Bryan Ray Turcotte (Kill Your Idols), and producer Bo Bushnell (The Western Empire).

Social Distortion lullaby album due this month

Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star have announced the next collection of covers will be released on June 25th, featuring lullaby renditions of Social Distortion. You can hear the lullaby version of “Ball and Chain” from the band’s 1990 self-titled release below. Paul, from Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star, told Punknews:

This release is done independently. […] Occasionally we release “labor of love” albums and this certainly was one of them. Being 51 and from the South Bay I was lucky enough to catch many an early performance by Social D and many other legendary California punk bands.

Social D is currently on tour with Dave Hause and Cheap Time.

On Tour: Iron Reagan

Richmond, VA’s hardcore/thrash hybrid Iron Reagan have announced a slew of new tour dates starting June 27th on both the East and West Coast. The band will be sharing the stage with a number of acts including Drop Dead, Whiplash, Witchhaven, GWAR, Hatebreed, and Mean Jeans.

For the tour, the band is debuting a new lineup including Tony Foresta and Phil “Landphil” Hall of Municipal Waste, drummer Ryan Parrish (ex-Darkest Hour) , Mark Bronzino (ANS, Big Eyes, Kicking Spit) and Rob Skotis (Hellbear.)

New Music: Palms: 'Palms'

Palms, the group featuring Chino Moreno of The Deftones and Jeff Caxide, Aaron Harris and Bryant Clifford Meyer of Isis, are now streaming their debut full length. The album features six tracks and runs 47 minutes, putting it more in line with Isis material like Holy Tears or Panopticon than the Deftones’ 2012 album Koi No Yokan . The album is due out June 25, 2013.

Problems with payments, lineups and more at Amnesia Rockfest

Many of you wrote in with news about some serious problems with this past weekend’s Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Québec. The festival had a notable lineup with bands including Rise Against, Rancid, Social Distortion, The Offspring, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Flag and Screeching Weasel.

However, many sources have covered the backlash after what appear to be severe logistical problems. The Ottawa Citizen spoke to attendees as well as bands like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Bassist Joe Gittleman commented:

[We] got bumped because Marilyn Manson’s crew was allowed to set up late [and so] we essentially just found our own slot on the side stage, We went over there and talked to the guy who was running that stage. When we realized our set time was going to come and go, we kind of just took it upon ourselves to figure it out. The guys in Anthrax were nice enough to give us one of their [dressing rooms too.] What we experienced was a bunch of really nice people who I think had the best of intentions to put on a festival. I think the festival is bigger than they were ultimately maybe ready to handle.

One attendee, Adam Moody, was stuck waiting in a lengthy will-call line for three hours outside the venue trying to pick up pre-purchased tickets. Eventually, he gave up and had to leave. Another, Dan Edmunds waited two hours for a shuttle bus to see The Offspring and despite leaving the show early to beat the rush, Edmunds found that the shuttle bus to their campsite was full and was the last of the night leaving them stranded at the venue.

Music Videos: Teenage Bottlerocket: "Freak Out!"

Teenage Bottlerocket enlisted former Against Me! guitarist Andrew Seward to direct their new video for “Freak Out.” Seward joked about amibitious plans for the video:

We went into this video trying to recreate the nine-minute-and-nine-second-long video of Guns N Roses’ “November Rain.” What we came out with was a 40-second video of breaking bottles over each other’s heads.
